  12. CONFIGURING
  13. -----------
  14. 1. Modify include/configs/cobra5272.h acc. to your prefs
  15. 2. If necessary, modify board/cobra5272/config.mk (see below)
  16. 3.
  17. > make cobra5272_config
  18. > make
  19. Please refer to u-boot README (general info, u-boot-x-x-x/README),
  20. to u-boot-x-x-x/board/cobra5272/README and
  21. to the comments in u-boot-x-x-x/include/configs/cobra5272.h
  22. Configuring u-boot is done by commenting/uncommenting preprocessor defines.
  23. Default configuration is
  24. FLASH version (for further info see subsection below)
  25. link address 0xffe00000
  26. 16 MB RAM
  27. network enabled
  28. no default IP address for target, host set, no MACaddress set
  29. bootdelay for autoboot 5 sec.
  30. autoboot disabled
  31. #-----------------------------------
  32. # u-boot FLASH version & RAM version
  33. #-----------------------------------
  34. The u-boot bootloader for Coldfire processors can be configured
  35. 1. as a standalone bootloader residing in flash & relocating itself to RAM on
  36. startup automatically => "FLASH version"
  37. 2. as a RAM version which will not load from flash automatically as it needs a
  38. prestage bootloader ("chainloading") & is running only from the RAM address it
  39. is linked to => "RAM version"
  40. This version may be very helpful when installing u-boot for the first time
  41. since it can be used to make available s. th. like a "bootstrap
  42. mechanism".
  43. How to build the different images:
  44. ------------------------------
  45. Flash version
  46. ------------------------------
  47. Compile u-boot
  48. in dir ./u-boot-x-x-x/
  49. please first check:
  50. in ./configs/cobra5272_defconfig
  51. CONFIG_MONITOR_IS_IN_RAM has to be not present in the file
  52. => u-boot as single bootloader starting from flash
  53. in configs/cobra5272_defconfig CONFIG_TEXT_BASE should be
  54. CONFIG_TEXT_BASE=0xffe00000
  55. => linking address for u-boot as single bootloader stored in flash
  56. then:
  57. host> make cobra5272_config
  58. rm -f include/config.h include/config.mk
  59. Configuring for cobra5272 board...
  60. host> make
  61. [...]
  62. host> cp u-boot.bin /tftpboot/u-boot_flash.bin
  63. ------------------------------
  64. RAM version
  65. ------------------------------
  66. in dir ./u-boot-x-x-x/
  67. host> make distclean
  68. please modify the settings:
  69. in ./configs/cobra5272_defconfig
  70. CONFIG_MONITOR_IS_IN_RAM now has to be enabled, e. g. as follows:
  71. CONFIG_MONITOR_IS_IN_RAM=y
  72. => u-boot as RAM version, chainloaded by another bootloader or using bdm cable
  73. in configs/cobra5272_defconfig CONFIG_TEXT_BASE should be
  74. CONFIG_TEXT_BASE=0x00020000
  75. => target linking address for RAM
  76. then:
  77. host> make cobra5272_config
  78. rm -f include/config.h include/config.mk
  79. Configuring for cobra5272 board...
  80. host> make
  81. [...]
  82. host> cp u-boot.bin /tftpboot/u-boot_ram.bin
  83. ----
  84. HINT
  85. ----
  86. If the m68k-elf-toolchain & the m68k-bdm-gdb is installed you can run the RAM
  87. version by typing (in dir ./u-boot-x-x-x/)
  88. "board/cobra5272/bdm/load-cobra_uboot" ,
  89. in ./u-boot-x-x-x/ the RAM version u-boot (elf format) has to be available.
